Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction (CCA–DRR)

The Institute for Research and Learning (IRL) offers a specialized training program on Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction (CCA–DRR) to strengthen the resilience of communities, institutions, and practitioners in Pakistan. Climate change is intensifying the frequency and severity of disasters such as floods, droughts, heatwaves, and glacial lake outburst floods, posing grave humanitarian and development challenges. This training equips participants with the knowledge, tools, and practical skills needed to understand risks, design adaptation strategies, and integrate disaster preparedness into policies and community practices. Designed for government officials, humanitarian and development professionals, community-based organizations, and youth and women leaders, the training combines interactive learning, case studies, simulations, and participatory planning. Key focus areas include climate risk assessment, community-based adaptation, early warning systems, disaster preparedness, and inclusive approaches that address gender and social vulnerabilities. By the end of the program, participants will be able to apply CCA–DRR principles in their own contexts, develop action plans, and contribute to building safer and more resilient communities. The training is aligned with global frameworks such as the Sendai Framework for DRR and the Paris Climate Agreement, as well as Pakistan’s National Climate Change Policy. Through this initiative, IRL reaffirms its commitment to advancing research, learning, and practical solutions for humanitarian challenges in the face of climate change.
